We are pleased to announce the successful completion of THE ASSOCIATED & Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Day School Initiative, which ensures $16 million dollars for our 12 local day schools between 2007 and 2012. THE ASSOCIATED raised $5 million of the funds, which was matched two-to-one by the Weinberg Foundation. The Foundation provided an additional $1 million to kick-off the campaign.

The Day School Initiative raised community awareness of the importance of day school education, in which more than 5,000 Baltimore children are currently enrolled. The successful completion of the campaign demonstrates that THE ASSOCIATED and the greater Baltimore Jewish community have made day school education a priority.

As a result of the campaign, day schools themselves were able to raise additional funds beyond those provided by the match. The day schools were able to use their share of the final $1 million as a match to their own donors to encourage increased giving, thereby increasing the amount of funds beyond $16 million. In addition, THE ASSOCIATED increased its funding from the Annual Campaign for day schools.

THE Initiative is a another example of the Baltimore community’s unity and ability to collaborate for a common goal. We are in conversation with key lay leaders and the Weinberg Foundation to discuss future collaboration on behalf of local Jewish day schools.
