THE ASSOCIATED’s Center for Community Engagement & Leadership (CCEL) strives to strengthen and enrich the Baltimore Jewish community by engaging individuals in meaningful opportunities for volunteer involvement and advancement. CCEL accomplishes this mission by engaging, training, educating and placing volunteers in positions throughout the community.

Hands-on Volunteerism: Jewish Volunteer Connection
Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC), creates a culture of volunteerism by providing a coordinated, centralized entry point for Baltimore Jewish community volunteers. JVC works to strengthen the Jewish community through high-quality, hands-on volunteer placements and projects, developed in partnership with agencies, congregations and other communal organizations.

Leadership Training: Leadership Development Department
The Leadership Development Department increases the skills of lay leadership through training sessions and/or programs and implements strategies to attract and engage potential new volunteer leaders.

The Darrell D. Friedman Institute for Professional Development at the Weinberg Center (DFI) DFI works collaboratively with CCEL to deliver high quality-training to lay leaders and professionals. The curriculum is tailored to allow individuals to become more effective at their current leadership level, or to grow and move to the next level. DFI offers skill-based workshops through a Jewish lens, within a range of topics for those working or volunteering at varying levels in our agencies, organizations and synagogues.

Agency Board Cultivation: Board Development
The Agency Board Development Committee works closely with THE ASSOCIATED and supporting agencies to ensure that they continue to have effective, passionate, and productive volunteer leadership. Members of the committee frequently meet with interested candidates to determine their interests and connect them to Agencies that are a best fit to ensure they will have the best possible governance experience. Typically, placement begins on a committee of the Agency or a committee of THE ASSOCIATED. Contact: Stephanie Gordon, 410.843.7488,
